Learning is a skill.
Nobody teaches it.
We do.
Schools teach students what to learn, not how. When a student knows how to learn, there is nothing they cannot figure out. So every session uses their real schoolwork to practice the skill of learning itself.
Every session opens with a short lesson on one of these, then puts it to work on real schoolwork.

1.
Change what learning means
Memorizing gets a student through a test. It doesn't mean they actually get it. Real learning means using what you know, not just reciting it. We teach kids that a wrong answer isn't who they are, it's just data.
2.
Understand how learning works
Not just study tips, the actual mechanics. Once a student knows why a strategy works, they stop doing it because we said to and start doing it because it works.

3.
Build a toolbox
No single strategy works for every brain, so we don't just teach one. We hand students a range of tools and let them try each one until they find the ones that work best.
4.
Build a learning system
The goal is a student who knows what to do when they don't know. "I can't" becomes "not yet." That shift is what lets them dream big and go get it.
Three ways to work together
All sessions are online and run 50 to 60 minutes.
Pick the format that fits the student; the approach is the same.
1-on-1 tutoring
Full attention, paced entirely around your student. No group to keep up with, no waiting their turn, just the two of us, working through whatever they need most.
Small group
A self-directed learner doesn't mean learning alone. Bring your own group, or join our waitlist and we'll pair you with students at your grade and subject. Group sessions are $20 less per session than 1-on-1 at every pricing tier.
Learning coach
Want to learn something that's not a school subject? You bring the goal. We're not experts at everything, but we are experts at learning. We'll break it down, find the resources, build the plan, and figure out where to start together.

What families say
My daughter was getting D's and C's and just received her first A. I tried everything to get her interested in things, but nothing worked. Now she loves math and makeup and wants to go to college.
— C. Roach, parent
Not only did you help me dramatically improve my math grade, but you helped me become a better student overall.
— L. Keeler, student
I thought I wasn't built for math. I passed anyway. Now I believe I can learn anything.
— T. Detrait, student
We Gotcha Tutoring was transformative for my son. He became a better student, and his confidence carried outside of the classroom.
— L. Berman, parent

Why I built We Gotcha
Growing up, we didn't have much, ketchup crackers for lunch, kind of "not much." Coming from generations of factory workers, I assumed that'd be my life too. Education changed that. It gave me a way out, and I want that same shot for my students.
After 10+ years tutoring, I noticed a pattern that scared me: students were fine with guidance, but froze the second they had to learn something alone. For the longest, I didn't know how to fix that.
Then I started teaching myself to draw. Watching my favorite artists explain their process, one thing kept coming up: talent wasn't what made them special. Learning was. Once I studied how learning actually works, my drawing improved faster than it ever had.
If it worked for me, I knew it could work my students too.
That's why I built We Gotcha. Learning is a skill. I teach students how to get good at it
